Food Safety Breakthrough! Pathogen Controlled

With the ever increasingly advanced ways of technology, our science developments have only spiked and recently, there has been a food safety breakthrough! Scientist are to believe that they might have found the solution in fighting for control over the deathly foodborne pathogen known as clostridium botulinum. This type of pathogen is known for growing in food.

The pathogen takes affect in a someone’s body after the consumption of food that has been in contact with the contaminated soil. Especially if the food had not been properly canned, preserved or cooked. The contaminated food then thus produce a neurotoxin in the body and causes the development of botulism.

The Institute of Food Research (IFR) discovered that botulinum spores can only germinate in a suitable environment, where the nutrients are useful for its growth. With special receptors that help it know when the appropriate nutrients around. So the researchers are now attempting to strategically trying to turned the genomes that activate these rectors so that they will no longer germinate.

Botulinum in it’s worst form, can cause the victim to have paralysis to the muscles that control breathing, which can cause respiratory failure. Other symptoms include, blurred or double vision, drooping eyelids and difficulty swallowing and speaking.
