#7 Food Poisoning Culprit – Cheese
A very contentious food! As an avid fan of cheese, having it even make the top 10 hurts my heart a little. But the concept itself should already warn people about the potentially harmful deliciousness that is cheese.
For those that might not know, some form of cheeses rely on bacteria to curdle. That should set off all your food safety warning bells already! These cheeses include ricotta and mozzarella. Furthermore, cheeses are susceptible to contamination because they are made using many steps, which can allow for cross-contamination. Using pasteurised milk that has been heated to kill pathogens has reduced the number of harmful bacteria in cheese.
Cheese have been common causes for the following food poisoning pathogens;
salmonella
listeria
staphylococcus aureus
To prevent yourself from getting sick from consuming cheese, you can only just avoid eating cheese. It is definitely a food that is heavily advised as to not eat to pregnant women.
