On Monday, it was announced that Costco Easy Cut Shoulder Ham has been recalled. The health authorities fear that the poison on this ham can harm the consumers, especially pregnant women.
The announcement was made by the Queensland Health authorities and as stated above, the product in question is the Costco Easy Cut Shoulder Ham that weighs 3 kg and has the use by date of 2nd of March 2016. This product is sold in Costcos in Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and South Australia and was recalled due to microbial contamination.
The contamination in question is listeria. For those that might now know, listeria is a type of food pathogen that is caused by contaminated soil and water in the harvesting process (read more on this food pathogen and others on our Food Poisoning page by clicking here). The victim of this pathogen will suffer such symptoms as fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, cramps and back pain. If you have any of these symptoms and have consumed this product, see a doctor immediately.
