Food Wrapping Is Dangerous Too!

Who would have thought that the fast food wrapping would cause you harm? But the latest research done in the United States showed that a third of the time, the carcinogenic compounds that we get from fast food comes from the wrapping.

The team of scientist in America analysed 400 samples types of fast food wrapping and found that a third contained fluorine, indicative of certain chemicals harmful both to humans and the environment. Although this is not the newest information but the newest method might make it easier to measure the chemicals in the future and to determine the scope of the problem.

Why is this an issue? The scientists specifically looked for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFASs. This is used to make the food packaging products stain-resistant and waterproof. But PFASs can also cause problems like “kidney and testicular cancer, low birth weight, thyroid disease, decreased sperm quality, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and immunotoxicity in children,” as published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology Letters. Fast food companies have phased out some PFASs, but the remaining ones can still leach into your food through the wrapper.

But this is not something that should turn you off from fast food. After all, the food itself will cause more damage than any wrapper could! But this might just be another incentive to stop you from consuming all that oily goodness. Has your mind changed?
