We first got a list of the worst suburbs in Sydney (click here to find out which one they were). But it seems Brisbane have been hit quite badly by unclean food too! Since April last year, there have been more than 1000 complaints made about unclean and bad food quality. From the latest data, between April and June of 2017, there were 213 complaints were made – 109 about food premises. There was also a further 104 questioning if the food was unsafe or caused infection.
Suburbs that had the most complaints were Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane, Upper Mount Gravatt and Inala. And it’s not that the council’s are not working hard to turn this around. Council’s Lifestyle and Community Services chairman Matthew Bourke said the council carried out more than 6400 safety inspections in the past year. And despite the urge from councils to push food businesses to meet standards, the message is not being carried through in action.
If residents are concerned about food safety can contact the council on 3403 8888 or visit the council website.
